Company Summary:

The Entropy System™, from BSI Entropy International, is a market-leading, web-based enterprise application suite for risk and compliance management. In use at over 5,000 sites worldwide by over 100 companies, it enables businesses to improve internal control and overall corporate governance. It is a management system framework certifiable and auditable against many international standards and indices including ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and the Global Reporting Initiative.

The Entropy System was developed to assist businesses in improving their environmental, economic and social performance in order to contribute to global sustainability. It is a modular and scaleable solution pre-configured to provide standards-based approaches to such risk management areas as environmental, health & safety, quality, security, and supply chain compliance.

Topic Summary:

Let’s put aside just for the moment the technical and technological aspects of “reporting” and think about really WHY a multi-site multinational enterprise, should want to “report” at all, at least in the traditional way. Let’s consider a typical position where the historical once-a-year painful exercise of collecting data from maybe hundreds of sites across the world, with issues of language, interpretation, units of measurement, verification of data, assessment of KPI relevance, external assurance, publication methodologies, timescales – whew!

Are we doing all of this for ourselves? Is there really a business purpose behind this? Actually, what use is a glossy book which contains stuff which is usually substantially out of date by the time it gets published either internally (to enable management decisions) or externally (maybe to assist investment decisions, but also as a PR and communications exercise).

Surely, numbers themselves are useful ONLY in a context of relevance – are they good or bad? – if bad (or turning from good to bad) so what? – where are the actions that flow out of these numbers?. These are management system questions – hence the topic title. Reporting should be as a result of and within the framework of an integrated management system, available to management on demand as part of fact-based decision-making, and externally – perhaps on a filtered and non-real-time basis – via the website.

Manage the incidents and near misses, circulate the objectives and targets on an ongoing basis, email notifications of actions and escalations where the loop has not been closed, ensure compliance (and the intangibles of brand and reputation protection), schedule audits and standardize protocols, conduct risk assessments using a variety of methodologies, and, by the way, here’s all the reporting that you need at all management levels to enable you to achieve this.

That’s the Entropy System™ approach – domain expertise taking software excellence to a business solution. www.bsi-entropy.com
